Interviewing brains & beauty x Melinda Keating

First up, I’d like to say a huge thank you to the beautiful Melinda for taking part and playing such an active role in a platform so exciting and extremely relevant.

This blog explores my interview with Melinda, a licensed cosmetologist, make-up artist and youtuber, where she shares with me all things personal and lifestyle.

Melinda is a 28 year old mother of 2, originally from Kingston, Jamaica and grew up in Baltimore, Maryland where she is currently living. Having a twin sister and tons of other siblings, Melinda clarifies how essential family is.

Family is everything to me, I love what I do, but most importantly, I love being a mother to my two beautiful kids; they keep me going when I feel like giving up.”

Melinda loves the notion that women can leave with a sense of fulfilment after using her services, that same fulfilment that she once never even had.

“I love making people feel happy and satisfied at the same time”

She knows that she can change people’s lives and the way they see themselves, just by sharing her art with them, which is ultimately why she loves what she does. Melinda predominantly sees her work as a way to reach out to others, make them feel confident within and above all things, happy.

Melinda goes by the name of _Alwysbeautiful on social media accounts, giving her audience a clear indication of her purpose.

“I love the fact that my YouTube channel can be a platform for people all over the world, to share beauty with”.

With over 9,000 subscribers, Melinda has the willingness to connect with her audience to the best of her ability. I personally love it when a person can use their talents to cater to others and not just for their own satisfaction. When you get to the stage you want to be in, bringing people in is one of the best things you could do.

“Not only can I share my talent with people close to me, but I can share my thoughts and talent with millions of people across the world.”

Every good story has had a set back once upon a time, which is why I then asked Melinda what her biggest challenge to date is.

I’ve always doubted myself and put myself down because I didn’t like anything I saw when I looked in the mirror. It was a struggle.”

Her experiences with poor self esteem, feelings of not being good enough and not living up to everybody’s expectations were all factors that interrupted her growth, making room for impediments.

“When I started hair school 5 years ago I started opening up and breaking out of my shell.”

Attending hair school became a key factor in regards to her confidence breakthrough. It gave her a foothold to stop being so shy and to take steps into legitimately loving herself first before anything. Through this, she was able to come to a consensus to explore the different aspects of beauty and come to terms with her own.

“It was hard and I faced many obstacles, but I also had very supportive people by my side encouraging me and pushing me to keep going, even when I wanted to give up.”

Prayer and support were so crucial into helping her overcome unnerving feelings and situations.

And this is why I am so passionate about beauty.”

In a nut shell, Melinda knows exactly what it’s like to feel unpretty. She is therefore so grateful that she can bless someone who’s feelings may be in sync with her past life, because where is the joy in watching somebody else struggle the way you did? Melinda has the tools to diminish such negative feelings in others all because of her remarkable transition.

Success is very important to me, because it reminds me everyday of how strong I am”

Melinda wants her children to know that no matter what struggles or obstacles you face in life, there is always a way to overcome it and be anything and everything you can be.

I want to set a good example for my children. Nothing in life comes easy, you have to work hard for everything you want.”

Being a cosmetologist is Melinda’s passion that she wants to continuously grow in and get better at. She’s had all the support in the world to get into the confidence level she desired and how great is it that she can now do the same for others.

“I want to be remembered as a Mother, a Wife, a Daughter, a Sister, an Aunt, a Friend; a Person. A beautiful, loving, caring and humble person.”

Changing the lives of others and putting smiles on their faces was another desire for her legacy.

“Feeling and looking good can change your life in a huge way and I love being apart of that.”
